Professor Gregory J Hancock AM

Professor Gregory Hancock is an Emeritus Professor and Professorial Research Fellow at the University of Sydney.  He was formerly BHP Steel then Bluescope Steel Professor of Steel Structures at the University of Sydney (1990 – 2009), and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies (2004 -2009).  He was formerly Director and Chairman of the Centre for Advanced Structural Engineering in the University of Sydney from 1988 until 2003 before he became Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.  He is currently a Director of the Australian Steel Institute.

He has been a member of the American Iron and Steel Institute Specification Committee (only non-North American member) since 1994, and chairs the Standards Australia committees on steel structures, cold-formed steel structures, structural steel, iron and steel and is a member of the Standards Australia committee on steel storage racks.  He was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FTSE) in 2004 and made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2006 for his work on Australian and International standards. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia (Engineers Australia), and an Honorary Fellow of the Singapore Structural Steel Society.

He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Constructional Steel Research and Case Studies in Structural Engineering published in London, as well as the Journal of Advances in Structural Engineering (Hong Kong), and Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering published by the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
